In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the tomatoes, vegetable broth, carrot, onion, garlic, oil, basil, salt, and pepper. Cover the pan and bring the soup to a boil. |

Remove the pan from the heat. Using an immersion blender, or carefully transferring the soup to a standard blender and adding the lid (making sure to vent to allow steam to escape), puree the soup to your desired thickness. |
